Hypothalamus - Survival drives / hunger, thirst, sex, reproduction, emotion / regulates food and water intake, body temp, sweating, and shivering
Basal Ganglia - Controls cognition, movement coordination, voluntary movement / processing link between thalamus and motor cortex
Hippocampus - New memories to long term / emotions, navigation, special orientation / located in the Limbic System
Amygdala - Strong functional responses, arousal and fear / closely tied to memory / connects with the hippocampus so certain events are more memorable
Thalamus - Composed of different nuclei that all serve different purposes / 98% of all sensory input is relayed by it, only smell is not / consciousness and alertness
Diencephalon - Acts as a primary relay and processing center for sensory information and autonomic control / just above the brainstem
Pituitary Gland - Produces hormones as well as stores hormones produced by the hypothalamus / located at the base of the hypothalamus
Corpus Callosum - Connects the left and right hemispheres, otherwise the two wouldn't be able to communicate / between the cerebral hemispheres
Olfactory Bulbs - Function is smell and sinuses / located in the temporal lobe just above the eyes in the limbic region
Frontal Lobe - Complex mental processes, reasoning, judgement, impulse control, and some memory / damage could result in loss of memory, behavior disorders, etc
